To help in our mission, Voices from the Void is pursuing surveys and interviews throughout Cauca to better understand the progress of the 2016 Peace Accords.  Specifically, the surveys and interviews are seeking local insights on general peace and development, as well as the promotion of rural education, as promised in the 2016 Peace Accords.

This effort includes a general peace and development survey conducted throughout Cauca in May and June 2022 to coincide with Colombia’s national election. Over 300 Afro, Indigenous, and Mestizo participants were surveyed in 31 of the 42 municipalities in Cauca, sharing a generally pessimistic perspective on the implementation of the peace accords, with young people and young women especially frustrated.

The results include the following:

48% of Cauca survey respondents feel the peace accords have not improved their life.
58% of Cauca survey respondents believe the government has not fulfilled its promises from the peace accords.
60% of Cauca residents say local security has not improved since the 2016 Peace Accords
Cauca survey respondents feel that security in their territory has not improved.
